Expanding History: Philadelphia’s Postwar Public Schools

Join us at the Albert M. Greenfield School (2200 Chestnut Street) for a discussion of Philadelphia’s historic post-WWII public schools. The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission is working on expanding its inventory of Philadelphia public schools to include those constructed and expanded between the years 1938-1980, a fascinating period of American architecture with such distinctive styles as Art Moderne, International Style, and Brutalism. An expert panel will discuss the work and research completed to date, how the inventory can be used by school overseers and developers alike, and possible approaches to maintenance and adaptation of these important educational spaces.

Free event. Registration requested.
