This neighborhood has a rich history, stemming from its days functioning as a manufacturing community, to the heritage of generations of families still residing here, to its religious and educational heritage.
Where once it was an industrial neighborhood, blossoming with hope and promise, it is now mostly a residential area, ripe with vacant lots and abandoned properties. Recently, some of the vacant lots have been turned into “green areas” promoting beauty and growth, in an otherwise struggling community.
Residents of this community are predominately lower- and middle-class African Americans. The area is experiencing growth and change with the redevelopment efforts taking place.
