Annual Appeal
Add It Up - Your Support Counts!
As the year draws to a close, we naturally pause to look back and take stock. It has been quite a challenging year for historic preservation. We had some sad preservation losses -- the Garrett Dunn House, recently stabilized and secured against the elements by the Preservation Alliance, was struck by lightning and burned to the ground. Similarly, the efforts of many concerned citizens and preservationists proved futile when La Ronda, Addison Mizner’s 1929 Mediterranean-inspired masterpiece in Bryn Mawr, was torn down.
But, thanks to the continued assistance of generous donors like you, the past year also brought many triumphs. Let’s review our numbers:
1,100 fans and stewards of old houses attended our popular annual Old House Fair.
750 people enjoyed an Alliance architectural walking tour.
500 gathered for the 16th Annual Preservation Achievement Awards Luncheon.
450 users downloaded the Alliance’s three new free self-guided walking tours.
440 African American historic sites are listed in the Alliance’s new online inventory.
300 homeowners participated in free workshops and hands-on demonstrations.
245 buildings will be added to the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places based on nominations prepared by the Alliance, including new historic districts in Parkside and Awbury and four Carnegie Libraries.
220 people attended educational lectures, hard hat tours and sneak preview tours.
150 community organization representatives turned out for A Sense of Place: Preserving Philadelphia Neighborhoods, a symposium on historic preservation and community development.
70 professionals enrolled in The Past is Our Future: Historic Preservation and Sustainability, a conference focusing on the important role of historic preservation in sustainable design.
27 Preservation Achievement Awards were given to honor individuals, organizations and projects that exemplify extraordinary accomplishment in the field of historic preservation.
1 Historic Interiors Bill was passed by Philadelphia City Council allowing for the designation of eligible historic interiors, which the Alliance actively supported as well as assisted in creating the rules and regulations for nominations.
The numbers don’t lie! In spite of a continuing difficult economy, we have been able to carry on with our mission to actively promote the appreciation, protection and appropriate use and development of the Philadelphia region’s historic buildings, communities and landscapes. Please help us to continue to succeed by making a 100% tax deductible donation to our Annual Appeal tod
