CitySpace Series Looks at Preservation Issues

Throughout the month of May, the City Paper, a Philadelphia alternative weekly newspaper, dedicated its regular CitySpace column - which presents opinions on the city's manmade environment, architecture, and design - to four preservation issues. The series coincided with the celebration of Preservation Month, and each article was authored by a board or staff member of the Preservation Alliance. You can read the articles by clicking on these underlined links:

"Future Perfect: Historic Preservation and Economic Development" by Alliance director John Gallery shows that much of the recent development in the city is actually historic rehabilitation.

"Easement Does It" by Alliance Associate Director Randy Cotton explains how voluntary easement agreements preserve our past and provide financial incentives to owners of historic properties.

"Inside Out", also authored by John Gallery, looks at the benefits and challenges of protecting historic building interiors.

"The Past Menagerie" by Alliance board chairman Paul Steinke, is a call for better funding of the Philadelphia Historical Commission.
