PHILADELPHIA, PA [February 7, 2005] - ReStore, a purveyor of salvaged fixtures, building materials and architectural elements for homeowners and contractors, today announced the formal opening of their store located in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia.

"ReStore facilitates three important forms of conservation," says Lara Kelly, "We help save the environment and we help save history. We also help people save money."

Eco-conscious homeowners searching for sinks, faucets, lighting, doors and such will be able to find high-quality unique items while preserving natural resources by reducing the demand for new production.

Cost-conscious contractors and home re-modelers can reduce the high costs of demolition and dumpster fees by calling ReStore to come out to dismantle and remove still usable materials such as flooring, bathroom fixtures, doors and cabinetry. The items are taken to ReStore's spacious warehouse/show room where they are cleaned up and displayed for sale in a user-friendly atmosphere.

The vision for the store was conceived when Lara Kelly enlisted Linda Lee Mellish to help Kelly complete the building of her Northern Liberties house, which she bought as a shell. Kelly and Mellish used as much recycled material as possible in finishing the home.

Philadelphia boasts some of the oldest buildings in America. Although ReStore does not focus solely on antique fixtures, a shopper will always find something special that was preserved from an older building and saved from a landfill.

Philadelphia nears the top of our nation's list of environmental troubles including, smog, trash importation, and polluted water. Kelly says she is "proud to be part of the pollution solution rather than part of the pollution problem."

ReStore was opened with a commitment to respect the resources of our environment by prolonging the life of usable materials. ReStore offers salvaged building materials at affordable prices as well as a deconstruction service. In addition, Ms. Kelly and Ms. Mellish provide a design and construction consulting service.

Linda Lee Mellish was raised on a Pennsylvania farm by parents who survived the Great Depression. The concept of saving and preserving resources was deeply ingrained in her character by experience. After working as a social worker in Philadelphia during the 1970s, she carried her personal philosophy of independence and resourcefulness through to her 20-year career as a carpenter. During that time, she actively salvaged parts and pieces and used them building houses.

Lara Kelly is no stranger to finding artifacts and putting them to use. She spent over ten years working as an art department manager for Hollywood films. Among the many films she worked on are 12 Monkeys, Quiz Show, and Philadelphia. Her job required locating outdated, hard to find building materials and props while pleasing demanding art directors and managing million-dollar budgets.
