Significance:
Established in 1905, the Armstrong Association of Philadelphia provided guidance for black skilled and unskilled workers. With school programs geared to strengthen relationships with children and their parents and strong affiliations with several trade unions, the Association's clients were placed in jobs such as printers, builders and engineers. Their school work/social center was nearby in the Thomas Durham Public School at 16th and Lombard Streets. The organization's office was also listed at 1519 Lombard Street (ca. 1914) and 1434 Lombard Street (1918).
