Significance:
Founded in 1888 by Rev. Matthew Anderson, pastor of the Berean Presbyterian Church, the Berean Building and Loan Association provided its first mortgage of $1,000 in its first year. The association first met in the basement of the church at 19th and College Avenue. In 1941, the organization opened its first full-time office at 52nd and Arch Streets, and moved to this location in 1975.
