Significance:
Count Basie, Billie Holiday, Katherine Dunham and others performed at this African American USO in the 1940s. Despite the proximity of the Academy of Music's restaurant-turned-USO-club on the 300 block of S. Broad Street, the USO in Philadelphia established this second location in the 500 block of S. Broad Street during the 1940s to cater to African American servicemen.
