Significance:
Founded in 1902, Delaware County's Eden Cemetery is the oldest African-American-owned public cemetery in the nation. In addition to its own burials, in the early 20th century Eden accepted the former inhabitants of Philadelphia's Lebanon, Olive and Stephen Smith Home Cemeteries after the city condemned those African American cemeteries. Among the notable Philadelphians buried in Eden are Marian Anderson, Octavius Catto, Frances E. W. Harper, Rev. Charles Tindley and William Still. To learn more, visit http://www.edencemetery.org/
