Historians and preservation leaders from Philadelphia and around the Commonwealth gather for one day this spring to share their own techniques for researching and protecting our great history.
Research Historian Craig Stutman, Ph.D. and Preservationist Shelby Weaver Splain discuss the new Black History Context Study and Preservation Analysis by the African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP) and the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC).
Come join them and discover more about the significant artifacts in your community:
- Learn how to uncover the story of historic buildings on your Main Street.
- Hear how preservation advocates save endangered landmarks from demolition.
- Talk with area professionals about your local landmark or preservation effort.
- Examine the new Black History Context Study and how it can be used to document your community history.
- Scott Doyle, Administrator, Bureau of Historic Preservation at PHMC and Carrie Stavrakos of Partners for Sacred Places will discuss current trends in grant-making and ways that local groups may still win much-needed support.
