Historic Properties Repair Program

Historic Property Repair Grant$1.4 million from Philadelphia’s Neighborhood Transformation Initiative funds were appropriated for grants to subsidize the costs of exterior repairs made by low- and moderate-income homeowners in the city’s historic districts. The Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia was chosen by the city to administer this Historic Properties Repair Program (HPRP).

The repair grants pay for the incrementally higher costs of restoration-quality exterior repairs above those that do not meet restoration standards (base-level repairs). Homeowners eligible for HPRP grants must:

  1. Own and occupy (up to three additional rental units can be included) a house that is located in an existing – or one determined to be eligible – city or National Register historic district, or individually designated as a historic property (Philadelphia has more than 70 National Register and/or local historic districts),
  2. Have a total household income that is no greater than 80% of the area median income, and
  3. Have an exterior repair project that will approved by the Philadelphia Historical Commission.

Typical grant-funded projects have included porch restorations, replacement or repair of windows and doors using historically authentic products and methods, masonry and carpentry restoration, and roof work.

For more information, or to learn if your property is eligible, contact program director Randy Cotton at 215-546-1146 x 2 or
