Program Description

Philadelphia’s Real Estate Tax Abatement program was enacted in 1997 and restricted to the rehabilitation of older commercial and industrial structures. Abatements were intended to encourage new construction or rehabilitation of properties with the exemption of all or part of the value of the improvement for a set number of years. In 2001, the program was expanded to cover all construction activity, including industrial/commercial and residential properties. Join us as we bring together an expert panel to discuss and debate the impact that Philadelphia’s tax abatement has had on our city’s economy and built environment, particularly on historic buildings. Contact Susan Matyas for more information.
